The Creation Limited edition print ( 70cm x 30cm )
This piece is an interpretation of the story of creation according to the Torah. The first section shows the creation of chaos followed by light and darkness and the verse "it was evening and it was morning day one".
The next section shows the division between the upper and the lower waters to make space for the creation with the verse: "...and there was a firmament between the waters to separate between water and water" The lower waters give rise to land, bearing seed and plants, with the verse: "...and the land produced plants bearing seeds each according to its species" Whilst from the upper waters emerge the sun, moon, stars, comets and galaxies. "...and there were luminaries in the heavens to separate between day and night." The lower waters then produce fish (and the seahorse), which leap from the sea to become birds which, in turn, change into creatures (including the elephant and the unicorn). "...and God made the creatures of the world each according to their kind"
The animals evolve around the Tree of Knowledge and finally man and woman are produced. In the space between man and woman, a cup of wine appears, representing the final day of creation: Shabbat followed by the text of Kiddush.
I have tried to emulate the flux of creation as an explosion of morphology wherein the spaces between creatures are also creatures.
"The Creation" could make the perfect present for a birth, wedding or any new beginning - or could simply be owned as a piece of art.
